60 Second International Film Festival

60 Second International Film Festival successfully held its sixth round on 11th May, 2018 with numerous screenings internationally and within Pakistan in Karachi, Jamshoro, Lahore, Gwadar and Gilgit Baltistan. Ziauddin College of Media Sciences, ZCOMS hosted the screening in Karachi. This year’s social issue was mal-nutrition. Over 1000 films were registered and the challenge was to narrate a story within 60 seconds. All the short listed films showcased depicted great digital storytelling and film making skills. Sana Bucha was on the panel who shared her thoughts about journalism and to use films as a platform to highlight important social issues.

Ziauddin University Convocation 2018

Ziauddin University awarded 504 degrees to its graduating students of different disciplines at its 15th convocation held at the Expo Centre here on Wednesday.

Addressing the students, Sindh Governor Muha­mad Zubair, the chief guest on the occasion, emphasized the importance of quality education and praised the efforts of university chancellor Dr Asim Hussain for the institution.

ZCOMS visits Amin Gulgee Gallery

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences (ZCOMS) visited the exhibition ‘Urban sub-cultures in Germany and Pakistan’ curated by Amin Gulgee, Zarmeen Shah and Zeerak Ahmed (Pakistan) and Mathilde Weh and Leonhard Emmerling (Germany). It was extremely generous of Dr. Markus Heidingsfelder and Amin Gulgee to be our guide for the day and enlighten the students about how sub and counter culture is depicted in music and other forms of art both in Germany and Pakistan.  It was as intriguing exhibit that showcased subversive artists and their work put together in films, television and music.

ZCOMS hosts Pakistan International Film Festival (PiFF)

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences, ZCOMS hosted Pakistan International Film Festival (PiFF) that ran from 29th March, 2018 till 1st April, 2018 at Ziauddin University, Clifton Campus.

PIFF was a progressive film festival attended by leading faces of film and media industry. Ziauddin University hosted multiple panels and discussions between prominent Indian & Pakistani filmmakers and stars.

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences was privileged to provide PIFF with a platform to promote Pakistani cinema and filmmakers by creating an interactive space for open dialogue and exchange of ideas that will help Pakistani cinema find its groove again in the post-revival age. PIFF has become the first large-scale film festival in its time and has brought bunch of international film-makers, actors and artists to Karachi to celebrate cinema, interact with members of the Pakistani entertainment industry and exchange stories and ideas.

PIFF’s panel discussions conducted at ZCOMS had a diverse participant lineup and included prominent local and foreign speakers; Anjum Rajabali (celebrated Indian script/screenplay writer), Nandita Das (Indian actor/director/ producer), Harsh Narayan (Indian filmmaker), Sajal Aly, Adnan Sarwar, Sana Tauseef, Atiqa Odho, S. Rajamouli (director of Baahubali), Vinay Pathak (acclaimed Indian actor), Kamran Jawaid, Sultana Siddiqui, Asim Raza, Amin Farooqui, Tahir Moosa, Zeenat Lakhani and Saket Chawdhari (writer and director of Hindi Medium), Haseena Moin, Jami, Subhash Kapoor (prominent Indian producer, screenplay writer and director), Vishal Bhardwaj (Indian filmmaker), Hareem Farooq, Rekha Bhardwaj (Indian playback singer), and others.

ZCOMS has always been proud in being a part of such progressive events where Pakistan can be promoted in whatsoever manner. Therefore, ZCOMS feels honored to host the leading film festival, Pakistan Film Festival’s very first edition and will be glad to continue being a part of such initiatives in the coming years.

Mah e Mir Screening at ZCOMS

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences hosted film screening of ‘Mah-e-Mir’ a biographical film that draws parallel from the famous poet Mir Taqi Mir’s life. Directed by Anjum Shahzad, produced by Badar Ikram, Khurram Rana and Sahir Rasheed, and written by Sarmad Sehbai, the film was selected to represent Pakistan in the 89th Academy Awards’ foreign-language film category. It was a delight to witness the work of Urdu’s famous poet on the big screen performed by Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, Sanam Saeed, Alyy Khan and Manzar Sehbai in the lead roles.

The screening ended with an intriguing question answer session conducted by the Director, Anjum Shahzad and the Producer Badar Ikram that illuminated students about the challenges of film making.

Spring Fest’18

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences, ZCOMS organized its first edition of Spring Fest this year on 29th March, 2018 at its Clifton Campus. The festival attracted on campus students, and students from various other universities across Karachi to be a part of the fun gala organized. The festival was organized by Ziauddin Media Society that made sure the event is a success. ZCOMS witness a footfall of a huge crowd like never before.

The Spring Fest had variety of stalls which covered pretty much everything, ranging from great food to greater clothing exhibits. A reputable host was invited to create enthusiasm among crowd who danced to the beats of the music and enjoyed to their fullest. Animal photo shoots were trending throughout Spring Fest where students clicked pictures with Python and Macau. We also had ZU Atlas team on ground; they interviewed President of Ziauddin Media Society and other people and congratulated the Society on a fun filled day.

Media Ethics & Laws in Pakistan and its Implementation

We had among us khurram Qadeer, Associate Director Corporate Affairs GEO Network a phenomenal speaker who enlightened the students on the ethics that should be observed being a media professional. He shared many examples that are being practiced by media conglomerates which kept audience engaged during the session.

A hall filled with ideas worth millions

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences held their thesis display of their 2nd graduating batch on 15th Feburary, 2018. Graduates of all the three majors Advertising, Journalism and Film & Video had put up their work.

The display comprised service based  applications  and ready-to-be launched brands;  eye-opening documentaries and short films and well researched  presentations by the journalism students which attracted more than a few. The occasion was honored by the presence of Dr.Asim, Chancellor of Ziauddin University, Prof. Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor of Ziauddin University, Mr. Faizan Syed, Founding Director ZCOMS and Dr. Nida Hussain, Head of Academics & Director Faculty Affairs.

It was a day of pride for the gleaming final year students showcasing their yearlong  hard work. It all paid off when they received compliments from visitors, faculty and other college students who came to see the Thesis Display.

Farewell 2017

Ziauddin College of Media Sciences ZCOMS bid Farewell to their graduating batch in style and elegance. The party was arranged on a boat. The ceremony of titles to the passing out batch was held in the hall at the lower deck. Students hosted the event and did an exceptional task at entertaining the audience. Dinner was organized on the upper deck in the chilly yet pleasant night of early December. All in all students enjoyed and were delighted to receive such a grand farewell organized by the department and Media Society.​
